Not able to remove the deny "Full Mailbox Access" permission in Exchange 2003
Hello. I'm a network administrator andthe organization I work forrecently upgraded from Exchange 2000 to Exchange 2003 Version 6.5 (Build 7638.2: Service Pack 2) running on Server 2003 R2 Enterprise Edition SP2. We are running Active Directory in Windows 2000 Mixed mode. For some reason, since the upgrade I'm not able toremove thecheckmark from the deny"Full Mailbox Access" permissions on users' mailboxes. It's all greyed out like there's some sort of inheritance. When I click the Advanced button I try to remove the deny permission but the Remove button is greyed out. I've tried changing the ownership but that was to no avail also. As an admin, I may need to be able to access other users' mailboxes. Any advice you can offer on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

The inhertance is coming from the database/SG. You can access its permissions via adsiedit.msc, configuration container of the domain.

Thank you for the quick response. I just have one more question however, I've been a network analyst for a grand total of 8 months, so I hope this doesn't sound too stupid. But what is the "database/SG?" Thank you.

The mailbox database or the storage group. If your new to exchange/AD, I would suggest calling in some help before you open adsiedit.msc; a mistake in there can trash your domain. Maybe a Microsoft Gold partner in your area could offer some consulting/training services to get you going. Good luck!
